Garstang,
Lancashire
There's
lots to see and do in Lancashire. A hot
air balloon flight may be perfect for a
birthday gift or special celebration.
The
market town of Garstang is east of the A6,
about 8 miles north of Preston and 8 miles
south of Lancaster. The hills and fells
of the Bleasdale Moors are a few miles east
of the town. They look attractive when viewed
from Garstang, especially after snow-fall.
The River Wyre flows from the north past
the Flood Controls and the ruins of Greenhalgh
Castle, down the east side of Garstang.
The Lancaster Canal flows south of the town
centre towards the west and north to Galgate.
The villages of Churchtown, Catterall and
St. Michaels are to the south of Garstang
and Cabus and Scorton are to the north.
This area is known for production of Lancashire
cheeses. The area is also popular with walkers.
Local legends claim that King Charles II
stayed overnight in Garstang during the
English Civil War.
