Great
Harwood,
Lancashire
There's
lots to see and do in Lancashire. A hot
air balloon flight may be perfect for a
birthday gift or special celebration.
Great Harwood is a small market town in
the Hynburn district. It is north-west of
Accrington and north-east of Blackburn.
A weekly outdoor market is held in the town
square. The Harwood Civic Society has revived
the once annual fair begun by a Royal Charter
in the 14th century.
Great Harwood’s benefactor John Mercer improved
the cotton dyeing process and provided funds
to build the Town Clock and leisure centre.
Features of St Bartholomew’s church include
stained glass windows and interesting woodwork.
The Cricket Ground and Pavilion, Lowerfold
Park, and Memorial Park are north of the
town. Great Harwood is separated from Accrington
by the Hyndburn Brook, farmland and the
Norden Brook. A caravan Park is situated
close to Mill Lane off the A680.
