Speke,
Merseyside
Merseyside
is a densely populated coastal county, lots
of people, spirit, humour, lots to see -
from land and air.
Speke is the location of Liverpool's John
Lennon airport. Hot Air Balloon flights
are generally restricted around commercial
airports. For example, there are restrictions
on the height (altitude) at which balloons
can be flown in areas around the approach
to runways. This is why we wouldn't expect
to see much hot air ballooning in close
proximity of Liverpool Airport.
Speke
is an area of south Liverpool located south
of Liverpool city centre and west of the
heavy industrial areas of Widnes and Runcorn.
Speke itself is a very pleasant area that
includes river front walks (its on the north
shore of the River Mersey), the historic
Speke Hall (National Trust), and Liverpool
Airport - from which there are regular flights
to many UK and European destinations.
Residents of Speke may need to drive away
from the immediate area of Liverpool Airport
to enjoy a hot air balloon flight. That
should not be a problem as the beautiful
Cheshire and North-Wales countryside is
close-by.
