Widnes,
Merseyside
Merseyside
is a densely populated coastal county, lots
of people, spirit, humour, lots to see -
from land and air.
Widnes
is a largely industrial area on the north
side of the River Mersey east of Liverpool.
It is close to Runcorn (which is on the
south side of the River Mersey) as the two
towns are joined by both road and railway
bridges.
Due to the urban industrial character of
most of Widnes, this is not an obvious area
for Hot Air Balloon flights. However, about
30 mins drive away to the south is the Cheshire
countryside and other suitable areas are
also not far away. Leisure facilities in
and around Widnes include river-side picnic
areas for walkers and families to enjoy
during the summer months. There is also
a catalyst museum and information centre
in the centre of Widnes, and several golf
courses very close by.
Road access to Widnes is either via the
M56, then the A557, through Runcorn and
across the Runcorn bridge, or from the M62
then south into Widnes along the A570.
