Lancashire is one of the largest and most
historic counties in England. Lancashire's
coastline stretches from the estuary of the
River Ribble (south of Preston) through the
seaside towns of Blackpool, Cleveleys, Heysham
and Morcambe up to Silverside at the northern
part of Morcambe Bay.
Hot Air Ballooning is not the only way to
enjoy Lancashire from the air. There are also
pleasure flights available from Blackpool
Airport (Squires Gate, south of the "Golden
Mile") and sometimes also from Southport (seasonal).
Technically Southport is now part of Merseyside
- but we won't digress into that here.
Light aircraft flights from either Blackpool
or Southport tend to fly over Lancashire and
in some cases other counties as well, such
as Merseyside and Cumbria (Lake District).
Hot Air Balloon flights are a romantic way
to enjoy the scenery as long as you're not
in a hurry, and are willing to go where the
wind takes you for up to an hour or so.
The places in Lancashire listed on the left
are links to pages mentioning interesting
places from which you may fly, or fly over,
in a hot air balloon.
You may not get to see the coast too
close-up as a safe landing will be a priority
for your flight provider. As with all outdoor
pursuits, safety is paramount.
There are some fantastic Hot Air Balloon
companies operating across the Lancashire.
Some of are included in the photographs on
this website as this is one of our favourite
places for watching hot air balloon flights.
If you decide to experience the thrill of
hot air ballooning yourself, we wish you a
fantastic flight! |

It requires considerable skill
to launch and control one of these
exotic shaped hot air balloons. This
beer-bottle shaped balloon was photographed
at an event in Preston, Lancs. in
summer 2006. |
