Rufford,
Lancashire

The
village of Rufford is located on either
side of the A59 to the north-east of Burscough
in the rural west Lancashire Plain (an arable
farming area). Rufford Railway Station is
on the line from Preston to Ormskirk.
The medieval National Trust Property of
‘Rufford Old Hall’ is situated just off
the main road (A59) through Rufford. This
is said to have been visited by William
Shakespear in his role as actor. The Leeds/Liverpool
Canal, Parish Church and Manor House are
located to the east of the village. Rufford’s
Cricket Ground is close to the residential
area to the south-west of the village and
the A59. The complex of lakes at Mere Sands
Wood Nature Reserve and Mere End are west
of the village close to the B5246 Holmes
wood Road.
The village of Mawdesley is situated about
5 miles to the south-east of Rufford, beyond
Rufford Railway Station and along the B5246
(east) and onto Blackmoor Road.
