Poulton-le-Fylde,
Lancashire
There's lots to see
and do in Lancashire. A hot air balloon
flight may be perfect for a birthday gift
or special celebration.
The
market town of Poulton-le-Fylde is mentioned
in the Domesday Book as having what is now
Morecambe’s frontage as its fishing port.
It is reached from the M6 (32 miles away),
then the A6 and finally the A586. Poulton-le-Fylde
is situated east of Blackpool North and
south of Thornton Cleveleys. From the Fleetwood
road A585, at Skipool, it is less than ½
a mile along the A588 south-west into the
centre of Poulton-le-Fylde.
The rail link to Poulton-le-Fylde is from
Kirkham to the south-east of the town. The
railway station, which is in the north of
Poulton-le-Fylde, is only a short distance
from the extensive Golf Course and Clubhouse.
The cricket ground is north-west of the
town centre, close to Hodgson High School
& Technical College. The rail line north
to Thornton Cleveleys passes to the east
of Poulton’s neighbouring village of Carleton.
The rail line south terminates at Blackpool
North.
St Chad’s Parish is near to the market square
and dedicated to the 7th century Saxon Bishop.
It has a Church Tower dating back to the
16th to17th century but which was rebuilt
between 1752-1753. One of its earlier ports
was on the River Wyre at Skipool.
