The
large north-east Lancashire market town
of Burnley is situated to the east of the
M65 (Jn10 & 11) motorway and close to
the A646 road to Todmorden (West Yorkshire).
To the north west of Burnley lies the Padiham
and the Forest of Pendle beyond. The once
thriving mill towns of Nelson and Colne,
yet still a busy market towns are within
a few miles to the north. There are many
scenic and picnic areas to the south east
of the town close to Thieveley Pike and
the lower regions of Heptonstall Moor. Queen’s
Park, with its sports and leisure facilities
almost connects to the neighbouring Thompson
Park, containing a boating lake and the
River Brun.
Both parks are within a short distance of
Burnley Central (Railway) Station. The extensive
area of Townley Golf Course is located close
to Townley Hall Art Gallery and Museum and
attractive grounds to the south east while
Burnley Golf Course lies to the south of
the town. The Leeds & Liverpool Canal
cuts through the town from north to south
while the River Calder flows from its source
in the south east, through Burnley to the
north west and onwards to Padiham.
