Burscough,
Lancashire
There's
lots to see and do in Lancashire. A hot
air balloon flight may be perfect for a
birthday gift or special celebration.
The
small town of Burscough has two railway
stations, one serving the line from Preston/Ormskirk
and the other from Wigan/Southport. This
is due to its history as two villages. It
is easily reached along the M6 then A59
from Preston or M6 then M58 and A59 from
Ormskirk. The Leeds Liverpool Canal crosses
the town from east to west and also its
junction with the Rufford link. The River
Douglas lies to the east. Local attractions
include The Martin Mere Wildfowl Wetland
Centre, situated to the north-east (between
the A59 & B5246) and accessed from the
New Lane local railway line. Also, Eccles
Farm Craft Centre is situated to the east
of B5246 near Bispham Green. The active
and successful Burscough Football Club (Victoria
Park) are soon to move to the new ground
with its attached sports centre. The town
has several public houses, supermarket and
shops as well as Burscough Priory Science
College, a popular High School, named after
the original Priory founded in the 12th
century of Augustinian monks. The Priory’s
bells are now in Ormskirk Parish Church.
