Scorton,
Lancashire
There's lots to see
and do in Lancashire. A hot air balloon
flight may be perfect for a birthday gift
or special celebration.
The picturesque village of Scorton is reached
from the A6 north of Garstang and along
Gubberford Road.
Scorton has two cafes. One of them was a
priory and the other is a converted barn
that includes a gift/craft shop. There is
a bar in the Priory Restaurant but no other
‘pub’ in the village. There are three churches,
the Anglican Church of St. Peter, a Methodist
Wesleyan Chapel, and the Roman Catholic
Church of St. Mary & St. James. The old
mill building was once a cotton mill powered
by an underground waterwheel from the River
Wyre. It was later used by a joiner to make
clogs but only part of the original building
remains today. Acre Wood is north of St.
Mary & St James’s Church.
From Snow Hill Lane there are a series of
hills and wooded slopes that are popular
with used by walkers and hikers. A short
distance to the north of the village is
a caravan park within a wide sweep of the
River Wyre close by a picnic area and Scorton
Lake. Around the Lake and its wooded surroundings
is a pathway and ‘hide’ from which can be
seen a variety of wild birds.
