The
picturesque village of Croston is situated
in a rural setting north-east of Rufford
and east of the market town of Chorley.
The River Yarrow flows through the centre
of the village from west to east before
joining the River Lostock which flows from
the north-east of the village. To the north-west
of the village both the River Yarrow and
the River Lostock become the River Douglas.
Croston is reached from the A59 from Preston/Ormskirk
and onto A581 as well as from the B5247
also from the A59 at the Carr House Roundabout.
The village has a railway station on the
cross-country line from Preston to Ormskirk.
At the centre of the village is St. Michael’s
Parish Church on an ancient religious site,
surrounded by old well-kept cottages, a
school building, graveyard, forge and paved
area with seats. The Graveyard is reached
via the archway of the old school building,
across the bridge over the Yarrow and a
narrow pedestrian way. The village also
has a Trout Fishery, recreation grounds,
sports club, reservoir, public houses, homes,
shops, attractive parks and is surrounded
by farm buildings and agricultural land.
