Morecambe,
Lancashire
There's lots to see
and do in Lancashire. A hot air balloon
flight may be perfect for a birthday gift
or special celebration.
The
seaside and market town of Morecambe is
east of Morcambe Bay. It has splendid views
across the bay to Barrow-in-Furness and
Grange-over-Sands (now in Cumbria).
There are many leisure facilities along
the Morecambe promenade as far as Heysham.
These include bowling greens, croquet &
junior golf courses, model and small boating
lakes and a large sports hall. The vast,
but dangerous, sandy area of Morecambe Bay
can be crossed with the help of an official
guide who is an expert on the area. It is
of great interest as a breeding and resting
area for migrant flocks of wild birds, notably
the eider and sheld ducks (noted by Peter
Scott). The ancestral home of George Washington’s
(First President of the United States) paternal
ancestors once stood on the site of Morecambe’s
present weekly outdoor/indoor market. The
gates of this house can still be seen in
the grounds of Morecambe’s Town Hall.
