Dunsop-Bridge,
Lancashire
There's
lots to see and do in Lancashire. A hot
air balloon flight may be perfect for a
birthday gift or special celebration.
The village of Dunsop Bridge is situated
in the Forest of Bowland on the road between
Chipping (to the south) and both Newton
and Slaidburn (to the north-west). The River
Dunsop flows south to the village and separates
the village green from the woodland beyond
before flowing east to join the River Hodder.
St Hubert’s Church is
said to have been built by the Towneley
family from their winnings of the 1861 Derby
Winner ‘Kettledrum.’ The village restaurant,
shop, and post office is a popular venue
for walkers, cyclists and tourists who can
relax on the green in the company of local
ducks or paddle across the stones in the
shallow but fast flowing river. To the south
is the village of Whitewell where its small
Church and neighbouring building ‘The Inn
at Whitewell’ stand above the River Hodder.
The Village of Slaidburn is north-east of
Dunsop Bridge.
There is a plaque in
the village to stating that The Ordnance
Survey have officially registered the village
as the centre of the British Isles.
