Slaidburn,
Lancashire
There's lots to see
and do in Lancashire. A hot air balloon
flight may be perfect for a birthday gift
or special celebration.
The
village of Slaidburn is located among the
moors within the Forest of Bowland (an
“Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty” AONB)
to the north-east of Dunsop Bridge.
Its greystone period buildings include Brennand’s
Primary School, the public house, ‘Hark
to Bounty,’ shop, homes, youth hostel, and
Slaidburn Heritage Centre. The Heritage
Centre provides local artefacts, an audio-visual
history of the village and the forest area
around the village and a 10th century ‘Angel
Stone.’ The Church of St Andrew has also
much to reveal of its colourful past. The
Croasdale Brook flows down from Fell End
to the north west of Slaidburn and joins
the River Hodder which leaves Stocks Reservoir
to the north-east. The waterways join above
Chapel Street to the east of the village.
The small hamlet of Easington, is close
to the River Hodder and at the junction
of the B6478 and moorland road from Dunsop
Bridge.
