Ribchester,
Lancashire
There's lots to see
and do in Lancashire. A hot air balloon
flight may be perfect for a birthday gift
or special celebration.
The
ancient village of Ribchester is in a rural
setting to the south-east of Longridge.
Ribchester is reached from Longridge along
the B6245, alongside the Spade Hill Reservoirs
and down the country lane past the Ribchester
Community Hospital, entering the village
from the north-west. It is reached from
the M6 then along the A59 (Whalley Road),
left onto the B6245 (Barker Brow) which
crosses the River Ribble and bends round
to the west.
The River Ribble flows close to the village
where some remains of Roman Baths of the
six acre Roman Fort, Bremetennacvm, can
be seen. The Parish Church of St. Wilfred
and its graveyard is west of the Roman Museum,
behind which are the ruins of a Roman grain
store All are within a short walk from the
riverside road where resting wild birds
can be seen on the sandy banks of the river.
There are many interesting old stone cottages
lining the streets and old public houses
within the village.
